SOLOIST DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 15

Ia Orana!

TAHITI NUI INTERNATIONAL is excited to host its
8th Annual Heiva I Honolulu at the Waikiki Shell
Amphitheatre, March 18-20, 2010. We thank
all the groups who participated with us last year, especially
those who traveled far, from other islands of Hawaii,
Japan and different parts of the Mainland USA and Canada.

Last year, the Waikiki Shell Amphitheatre filled with song and dance by talent never seen before. New groups to the Heiva I Honolulu stage, Mehetia Productions and Merahi Productions convinced audience and participants alike that the love of Tahitian culture is shared and performed by all. “Ia Ora O Tahiti
Nui”, directed by Kevin, Aulii, and Manarii in the Senior Division was also new to the Heiva I Honolulu stage, taking home the Senior Division First Place Otea Award. From Japan, returning Heiva I Honolulu champion, Heikapua Sabarsah with her group Tiare Heipua presented a colorful and vivid all female Otea
and was awarded once again the First Place Otea award for the Junior Division.

In our solo competition, veterans Keawe McArthur of Ma’ohi Nui and Charity Offril of Te Mana O Te Ra (pictured right) won over the judges with their solo performances, titled Overall Tane and Overall Vahine of Heiva I Honolulu 2009’s Solo Competition. Charlie and Kathy Temanaha directed their reknown drumming group, Te Vai Ura Nui, to the title of First Place in the Drumming category, gracing the audience and judges with tradition and culture. Indeed Heiva I Honolulu 2009 created lasting memories and experiences never to be forgotten.

For Heiva I Honolulu 2010, we welcome all previous and new participants to the Waikiki Shell Amphitheatre stage, March 18-20, 2010. Group leaders and individual solo participants are invited to complete the accompanying “Intent to Participate Form” and return the form to Tahiti Nui International via email, fax, or regular mail by September 15, 2009. Upon receipt of your Intent to Participate Form, Tahiti Nui International will then distribute to intended participants a copy of all rules, regulations, and applications with deadlines beginning as early as February 2010. We hope to hear from you soon. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to visit our website or contact us via email at info@tahitinuiinternational.com.
