UPDATE - March 2009 International Heiva i Tahiti -
Info Coming Soon
UPDATE - Heiva i Japan - August 31, 2008

Te mau hoa here e,
Ia orana and welcome to the 6th annual “Heiva I Honolulu 2008”. We are so excited to be back home once more at the “Waikiki Shell Amphitheatre, where this event will be held on March 13-15, 2008.

As you may know, at the request of the Minister of Culture of French Polynesia, we held 2007's Heiva in Papeete Tahiti, under the heading of “International Heiva I Tahiti 2007”. To those who wanted to join us but were not able to, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. Nevertheless, in spite of all the challenges that we went through, it not only turned out to be a huge success, but we have again been invited to take the Heiva back to Papeete Tahiti in 2009. To those who are interested, we’ll have more information available coming soon.

Consequently, we wish to acknowledge first of all the pupu ori Nonosina, (Ra’atira Ricki & Mevina Liufau), & Nemenzo (Ra’atira Elizabeth Bertumen), for their stunning exhibit performances, not to mention the well received solo competition, which was the crowd’s favorite, before a sell out crowd on both nights. It was absolutely an amazing experience for all of us. Furthermore, a major part of this success would not have been possible were it not for the professionalism & dedication of our scoring staff. They certainly deserve to be acknowledged.

Meanwhile, we’re anxious as we’re sure you all are, to move forward with this year’s Heiva. Throughout this website you will find the registration forms, a set of the rules & regulations, and other information regarding the 2008 Heiva. As we improve our event, we have found it necessary to revise the rules & regulations from time to time. We ask that you please read and be very familiar with these documents so as to avoid any misunderstanding or confusion.

Furthermore, as you all may know, each year we send out at least no less than 50 group invitations. If you know of a group(s) that did not receive an invitation, we probably do not have any information on them, so please, have them contact Rose at 808-732-7342 or
email: misstahiti@hawaii.rr.com

As always, your heartfelt support to this cultural event is greatly appreciated and we wish to extend our fondest Aroha to all the Ra’atira pupu and their members, particularly those who travel far distances to participate with us in the cause of preserving and promoting the Tahitian culture each year, here in Hawaii nei.

Until then, fa’aitoito, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
