Ia Orana!
Tahiti Nui International is proud to announce the date of Heiva i Honolulu 2019 as August 17!
Our hopes of holding a March event, unfortunately, conflicted with so many spring break events
across the islands. We are excited to hold an August event nonetheless and even more
honored to invite you to join us August 17, 2019 at the Hawaii Convention Center Ballroom as a
participant. Your participation, your energy, skill, musical talent, and incredible costuming is the
success of Heiva i Honolulu and contributes to our mission to perpetuate the culture of French
Polynesia.
Last year’s event at the Hawaii Convention Center was memorable and exciting for all who
attended! We would like to congratulate Eden Au, HIH 2018’s Overall Vahine who represented
Tahiti Nui International in the World International Ori Solo Championships, November 2018! We
were also privileged to award many others at HIH 2018, including our Overall Tane 2018, Makia
de Jesus of Ote’a Api.
This year, in addition to the Heiva i Honolulu solo competition of all ages, we would also like to
announce that Heiva i Honolulu 2019 will add a NEW solo division and format, Hura Tini
Championship, that aligns with the World International Ori Tahiti solo event which takes place
annually in Papeete. This Championship is the ori tahiti premiere event globally, gathering the
best eligible soloists to compete for a World Championship title. They have selected Heiva i
Honolulu as one of a few events internationally to produce one candidate that would vie for the
title of World Solo Champion. Thus, we have added a format that meets their criteria to better
prepare the judge selected Heiva i Honolulu Champion, as well as meet WIOT event
standards. The Hura Tini rules and regulations can be found in the group packet or online at
our website.
This year Heiva i Honolulu will also include group events again! It is our hope that you will
encourage others to join you to participate in a Mehura, Aparima, or ‘Ote’a. We have brought
our minimum and maximum group participant numbers lower to help accommodate all willing
participants. If you need assistance creating your own group, we would be willing to assist you,
do not hesitate to contact us. Please keep in mind our Heiva stage is 20 x 40 with a limited ten
(10) feet of floor space in front of audience seating.
We ask that you review the rules and regulations for groups, soloists, and Hura Tini. Should
you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us via
email for a more immediate response. Applications can be completed and mailed with your
payment. We will make them available online for individual or group access, as well as provide
online registration and payment processing. Please visit our website for additional applications
and/or online registration.
